General FAQ’s

Sometimes life can feel a little heavier than usual. You or your child might be feeling overwhelmed by daily demands, adjusting to a big change, or finding it hard to manage emotions or relationships. Other times, there may just be a sense that something isn’t quite right even if it’s hard to explain why.
Whatever has brought you here is completely valid. There’s no “wrong” reason to seek support.
Therapy offers a space that’s just for you; calm, safe, and without judgement. While friends and family can be wonderful sources of care, psychologists bring professional insight to help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and gently explore new ways of coping, healing, and growing.
And you don’t need a diagnosis to reach out. Sometimes, having someone who truly listens and helps you make sense of things can be the most meaningful step forward.
-
Your first session is a gentle starting point, a chance to meet your psychologist, share what’s been happening, and discuss what support would be most helpful. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out.
For adults and teens, the session usually involves talking directly with the person attending, with parents involved only when helpful. For children under 12, it can sometimes be helpful for parents or caregivers to meet with the psychologist first. This allows us to gather background, understand concerns, and plan therapy in a way that feels safe and supportive for the child.
Every session is tailored to the individual. Our goal is to create a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space where everyone feels heard, understood, and supported from the very beginning.
-
We offer a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Rather than sticking strictly to one approach, we adapt these therapies in a neuroaffirming, trauma-informed way to suit each person’s unique needs. Every session is individualised, and we often blend techniques from different modalities depending on what you or your child is working towards.
-
We understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes you may need to cancel or reschedule a session. We ask for more than 48 hours’ notice to cancel without charge. If a session is cancelled or rescheduled between 24–48 hours, a 50% fee applies, and cancellations within 24 hours incur the full session fee.
These policies help us maintain a sustainable practice so we can continue providing high-quality, individualized care to all our clients.
-
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, the length of therapy depends on your goals, needs, and circumstances. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others benefit from ongoing support over several months.
For children and teens, the number of sessions can vary depending on age, presenting challenges, and how they respond to therapy. Sometimes shorter, more frequent sessions work best; other times, longer sessions are appropriate.
Therapy is always tailored to you or your child. Our focus is on making meaningful progress at a pace that feels safe, manageable, and supportive, rather than following a set timeline.
-
Yes, we offer online/telehealth sessions for clients who prefer or need remote support. This can be a convenient option for adults and older children or teens.
For younger children, telehealth may not always be suitable, as it can be harder to engage effectively through a screen. We’ll always discuss what’s most appropriate for your child to ensure therapy is safe, supportive, and effective.
-
Existing clients can book sessions directly through our online booking portal.
New clients are welcome to send through an enquiry first. This helps us ensure the service is suitable and allows time to complete any necessary forms before using the booking system.
We’ll always respond promptly and guide you through the next steps, so getting started is as simple and smooth as possible.
-
Yes, we can provide reports or letters as needed. These are charged based on the time taken to complete them, in line with the relevant hourly rate (NDIS or private).
We’ll always discuss the purpose of the report, what information will be included, and the estimated time and cost before starting, so there are no surprises. Our goal is to make the process clear, supportive, and as straightforward as possible.

Medicare Rebates:
You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate when referred by your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). For sessions with a Registered Psychologist, the current rebate is $98.95 per 50-minute session.
With a standard session fee of $240, this rebate reduces your out-of-pocket cost to approximately $141 per session.
To obtain a Mental Health Care Plan, schedule an appointment with your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician and request a referral for psychological treatment. They will assess your needs and can create a plan that allows you to access up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year, plus up to 10 group therapy sessions.
Private Health Insurance:
Many private health insurance plans offer rebates for psychology sessions under allied health benefits. Rebates vary depending on your policy, so it's advisable to check with your provider directly.
NDIS Funding:
I provide therapy and psychological services to NDIS participants with self-managed or plan-managed funding only. Unfortunately, I cannot accept participants whose plans are managed by the NDIA directly. Fees are charged according to NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
Assessments
-
The Comprehensive Diagnostic Report is an in-depth document that offers a detailed analysis of your assessment, including diagnostic conclusions, strengths, challenges, and tailored recommendations. This report is often used for accessing support services, educational accommodations, or specialist referrals.
The Results Letter is a shorter summary highlighting the main outcomes of the assessment. It provides clear information about your diagnosis and recommendations but with less detail than the full report. This option is suitable if you prefer a straightforward overview or if a full report is not required for your purposes.
Both options include a 50-minute feedback session where we discuss your results and next steps.
-
A psychologist provides a comprehensive, neurodiversity-affirming assessment focused on understanding your unique strengths and challenges, not just diagnosing. We use evidence-based tools and clinical interviews to explore how ADHD affects your life and help develop practical, therapeutic strategies.
Psychologists do not prescribe medication; if medication is needed, we recommend working alongside a psychiatrist or paediatrician who can provide medical evaluations and prescriptions.
-
At Flourish Within, we don’t currently provide Autism Assessments as a standalone service. However, we collaborate closely with Nurture Allied Health to offer dual Autism Assessments for children and adolescents.
If you’re interested in this service, please reach out directly to Nurture Allied Health for more information or to make an enquiry.
